Jewelry Jottings by Danna Lea

Just 10 days before Christmas!

Chrysoberyl is a hard, tough and durable gem. Although lacking the fire of other gemstones, chrysoberyl gems are very valuable. Most chrysoberyl is yellow, and some are brown or green. An expensive form of chrysoberyl is the unusual cat's eye variety. When polished, these stone exhibit a narrow band of concentrated light along the width of the gem. This effect, know as the cat's eye effect, is caused by inclusions of fine, slender parallel mineral fibers in the gem. Many other gems also exhibit a cat's eye effect, but only chrysoberyl's cat's eye has the privilege of having that name alone.

Any gemstone would be a great gift for this Holiday season. We have a large selection with prices starting at $35.00. Other items up to 15% off. Thank you for supporting the arts in Athens, for those who seek the unique...

jEWELRY JOTTINGS by Danna

For the week of Nov. 16th -Nov. 23rd - Modern jewelry should be designed to be both beautiful and practical. Catches should lock, pins stay pinned and gemstones correctly mounted. Beware of setting a favorite mounting with a new stone. Is the mounting correct? Is it advisable to set a diamond in a ring originally designed for a ruby? These are good questions to ask your jeweler.

If you have old, heirloom jewelry, it should be looked at by an expert. Let us inspect your gemstones periodically for maximum beauty and protection.

YOU ARE INVITED TO OUR 12 HOUR SALE UP TO 40% OFF SELECTED MERCH. NOV. 28TH 9:00AM TO 9:00PM

JEWELRY JOTTINGS by Danna

True-cultured pearls are very soft, so soft that strung pearls may wear from the inside out, through enlargement of holes by thread. This wearing can be slowed by knots between pearls, to stop them from sliding. Pearls also scratch easily and should be stored away from other jewelry. Pearls should always be put on last, after makeup, perfume and hair spray. They should also be wiped with tissue before storing to avoid perspiration damage. If you wear them daily, we recommend that they be restrung twice a year. We will be glad to resting your pearls when needed.

We have a fine selection of pearls. Stop in today. This weeks special 18" strand pearl necklace, knotted with a 14K gold clasp $75.00 and pearl Bracelets for $42.00 Hurry in while supplies last.

We'll show you our gold jewelry and explain the true value of the gold used. You can rely on us for all your jewelry needs. Custom orders welcome. We will be glad to recycle your old gold into new jewelry. WE BUY SCRAP GOLD TOO!

The finest opals now come from Australia. The opal is October's birthstone. For yourself or as a gift for someone you care for, you'll find many lovely opals in our collection. NEW FURRY FRIEND

We invite you drop by the gallery and meet our newest addition to the Athena Jewelers family.  Sydney, our 11 month old Min Pin.   She is very sweet, loves children and is learning not to bark at the mail person and UPS peeps.   She's doing a pretty good job so far.  If the door is locked around 2 o'clock,  Sydney is out for her little potty break.  Sorry for any inconvenience.   We hope that you will stick around or come back to meet her.   Thanks everyone for their loyalty.

JEWELRY JOTTINGS by Danna

Week of Sept. 20th
Obsolescence: The word means "falling into disuse". What has this to do with diamonds? No other product can be made to remain modern or permitted to become an antique, while holding an increasing its value by year. Buy virtually any other major product and next year's model or fashion will make yours obsolete, worth only a fraction of your investment. But buy a diamond and you have a choice. You can have it reset at any time to meet the day's style, or keep it "as is" and eventually posses a valuable heirloom. No other investment gives you this choice. We specialize in custom settings for all gemstones. Let us discuss the possibilities with. Drop in soon we will be glad to help you create that one of a kind holiday gift.

New Jewelry

Lots of new work just arrived today. We are very excited about. If you live in Athens drop by the gallery to view our new Artist.

summers End

The weather is changing and the rain is wonderful. New jewelry is arriving daily. We have added over 20 new artist and are very excited about the changes we have made at the Gallery. Mary just got back from her first paid vacation. William and I sent her out on a little adventure. Turns out that Mary had never seen the most beautiful beaches in the world, P.C. beach Florida. We just so happen to have a free week at a condo., so we gave it to her with a little spending money and sent her on her way. She was so excited. We can't wait to hear all about her trip. William and I will be going to the beach again at the end of the month. Our last little trip before Christmas. I've been working hard on new jewelry designs. I took a week off in August and made new work for the gallery. I've really enjoyed looking for antiques and found objects to incorporate into my new line. I'm really having fun creating vintagesque jewelry and hope you like it as well. It is selling faster than I can make it, which is nice. I have really enjoyed all the custom orders and I'm looking forward to creating new work for my loyal collectors.
